Obituary of William K. Mourey
William K. Mourey, Sr., age 92, a life-time resident of the Finger Lakes, passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2017, after a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his father William Mourey, his mother Abbie K. Mourey, and his wife Emily F. Mourey.
Mr. Mourey was a lifelong farmer of grapes, peaches, cherries, wheat, and Christmas trees. A cabinet maker and metal fabricator, he was a developer of the over-the-row spray boom still used today by grape growers. He served as past president of the Reading New York Grange, the New York State Wine Grape Growers, the Circle S Corral Riding Club, and Farm Credit of Ithaca, New York. He also served as a board member of the Schuyler Hospital. An avid card player, he was the last surviving member of the Four Aces Thursday Night Bridge Group that played for more than 45 years. Mr. Mourey was a keen shooter of skeet and trap, and a past member of Fur Fin and Feather, Seneca Duck Hunters, the Bath Rod and Gun Club, and the Odessa Conservation Club. He was a member of the Watkins Glen Presbyterian Church for over 50 years.
Mr. Mourey is survived by his son William K. Mourey of Rock Hill, S.C.; his grandson Adriel Mourey of Odessa, N.Y.; his son John Mourey (Edie) of Big Flats, N.Y.; and his granddaughter Abbie Mourey of Big Flats, N.Y.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 18, 2017, at Vedder and Scott Funeral Home, 122 N. Genesee St., Montour Falls.
