Obituary of Dorothy Morse
Dorothy M. "Dottie" Morse, 104, of Montour Falls, passed away on Sunday, January 17, 2016. She was born in Rochester, on March 13, 1911, the daughter of the late Lionel and Lou Ella (Curry) Satterlee. As a child, Dottie attended her first through six grades in a two room schoolhouse, and then went on to Watkins Glen High School, where she graduated at the time of the Great Depression in 1929. Dottie later trained and worked as a beautician and interior decorator. She married Henry Morse, a Prudential Insurance salesman, and they were happily married for 25 years until his death in Nov 1971.
Dottie was a member of the Watkins Glen First Methodist Church where she and her husband Henry taught Sunday school. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter #142, Schuyler County Women's Democratic Club, and La Boutique des Huit Chapeaux et Quarante Femmes NY Chapter #537.
Dottie and Henry were avid golfers. They helped build the Watkins Glen Golf Course and worked to maintain it for many years. Dottie was Past President of the Women's Division for two years. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit #555 where she served as President for two years, member, and Chairman of the Vietnam Project for Schuyler County American Legion. Dottie also won Gardener of the week 3 times.
Dottie is survived by her niece Kelsey (William) Neuhausen of Ocala, FL; and by many special friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday, April 29, 2016 from 10-11 am at Vedder and Scott Funeral Home, 122 N. Genesee St., Montour Falls. A celebration of Dottie's life will follow at 11:00 am. Burial will be in South Hill Cemetery, Ithaca.
