Obituary of Lorraine E. Just

Lorraine E. Just, formerly of New Bern, NC, passed away on Sunday, October 31, 2021. She was born on May 2, 1947 in Montour Falls, NY, to the late Harold and Margaret (Englert) Just. Ms. Just was a graduate of Odessa-Montour Central School class of 1965. She earned an associate degree from Jackson Community College in Jackson, MI, and later, a Bachelor of Science from SUNY Cortland. Lorraine went on to complete her formal education in 1980, when she was awarded the degree of Master of Arts in Education, from East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. For two years, she proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, where she taught school for the Department of Defense, and the University of Maryland, in Germany. Upon her return from Germany, Lorraine taught public school in Craven County, NC for 32 years. After retiring from teaching public school, Ms. Just was a teacher at St. Paul's Catholic School, where she attended Catholic Church, in New Bern, NC. Lorraine was actively involved in her church, and spent evenings ministering at the women's jail in Craven County, NC. For more than 25 years, she was a leader and neighborhood chairman in the Girl Scouts of America, serving half of the state of North Carolina. Ms. Just was a brilliant educator who loved children and received many awards throughout her tenure. As a testament to her love for helping children, Lorraine was a state-certified foster parent to many children, aged from infant to teens, for several years in the 1990's. Lorraine was preceded in death by her brother, Frank Just, of Montour Falls, NY. She is survived by her two sons, James Just and Brian (Libby) Just, both of North Carolina; brother Ronald (Susan Deeley) Just, of Cayuta, NY; her beloved grandchildren, Angela and David, of North Carolina; special nephews and nieces, Anthony, Adam, Tracey, Michael, Mary, Morgan, and James Jr.; and special sister-in-law, Sandra Just. Lorraine is also survived by many special friends she had made over the years, with whom she enjoyed spending her time; Fran, Dori, Millie, Pat, Connie, Loretta, Rita – to name a few. Lorraine will be remembered for her love of the outdoors, spending time with family, traveling, shopping, and cooking; as well as for her love of the Lord. Lorraine's family would like to extend deep thanks and gratitude to her friend and caregiver of the past 9 months, Susan Deeley, who selflessly gave her time and love in looking after Lorraine, alongside her brother, Ron. Family and friends are invited to call on Friday, November 5, 2021, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Vedder, Scott, & Zinger Funeral Home, 122 N. Genesee St., Montour Falls, NY. Her funeral will follow at 1:00 pm. Interment will be in Montour Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, her family requests that you make a donation in Lorraine's memory to the American Alzheimer's Association, or another charity of your choice.
