Obituary of Richard E. Dodge
With family in close attendance, the Lord called home one of his finest children today, August 6th, 2012. Richard E. (Dick) Dodge was a Christmas baby, arriving on December 25th, 1935. He was the first of 11 children born to J.R. and Louise (Spears) Dodge. The first years of his life were spent in Syracuse and Warners, before moving to Alpine in 1982. He retired from Crucible Steel after 30 years of service. The ultimate outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time in the Adirondacks. He took great pleasure in spending time with his friends and family, and logged many miles traveling to the Syracuse area and Virginia to maintain a loving presence. Dick was predeceased by his parents and sister Linda.
Those still remaining on Earth to share the memories of his wonderful life include his children, Rick (Nida) Dodge of Baldwinsville, Jeff (Shelly) Dodge of Camillus, and Kurt (Donna) Dodge of Winchester, Virginia. Grandchildren include Sonya, Jamie, Bill, Rachel, Erica, Chelsi and Chase. Siblings include Bob (Sue) Dodge, John (Marie) Dodge, Ginny Longo, Jess (Jim) Carr, Cindy (Bob) Keyes, Ed (Mary) Dodge, Karen Sue Juszek, Jim (Debby) Dodge, Pam Dodge, and all their children, Dick's nieces and nephews. Also left to cherish his beloved memory is his life's partner, Ann Wood of Alpine and her family, including children Cherith (John) Keeton and Evie and Greg Noden. Grandchildren include Forrest, Maeve, Marshall, Leah, and Mariah. Ann's nieces and nephews will also cherish his loving memory.
There will be no calling hours. A memorial service to celebrate his amazing life will be held Saturday, August 11th 2012 at 11am at the Odessa-Catherine United Methodist Church, 305 Church Street, in Odessa.
