I have so many great memories of Aunt Rosie . I loved playing Gin Rummy with her when I was a kid. Not many adults wanted to play games with the little kids, but she was always up for a game of cards or a game of scrabble. When our families would visit each other , Jeanette and I would laugh when she would sing in the car…not knowing the lyrics wouldn’t stop her from enjoying herself - … “Hello (hello)! Is it me you’re looking for?!” with a two second delay . Her fantastic , distinct laugh , I can still hear it . I’d tell her something funny my mom did and she’d laugh that wonderful laugh and say “Oh yeah?! Well that’s Peggy!”
When she would say “it’s too much!” And say to Jeanette “don’t go through all that trouble “ and then she would proceed to make 5 different kinds of desserts. I remember her love of sweets and her introducing me to “rafts” from Riesterer’s Bakery when she would visit us on Long Island . She knew all the good desserts and would encourage you to eat cake for breakfast because after all, cake does contain eggs. She also introduced me to the post Thanksgiving “stuffing sandwich”. I thought it was genius that you could put bread between two slices of bread and call it a meal . I really loved my childhood trips “upstate” in the fall and looked forward to summer when Jeanette , Aunt Rosie and Uncle Dill would stay for a visit because I knew the house would be filled with uproarious laughter. I’m so thankful my last memory of her was time spent together at Seneca lake bringing my childhood memories full circle.
All my love to Jeanette, Gary , Craig and the “kids” who aren’t really kids anymore.
Love, Nancy
