Obituary of Sherwood N. Underdown

Sherwood N. Underdown, age 58, of Trumansburg, NY passed away at home on Wednesday, August 25th, 2021. Sherwood was born in Montour Falls, NY on March 24th, 1963, the son of Norman J. and Elizabeth “Betty” J. (Lummuka) Underdown. He was a 1981 graduate of Odessa-Montour Central School. He earned his certification in Electrical Distribution, Class A and Class B Electronics from the US Navy in 1984 and earned his Associates Degree in Technical Maintenance Electrician in 1984. He had worked as an Electrical Maintenance Technician for Cargill Salt from 1989 to 1999 and then from 1999 to the present at Borg-Warner in Ithaca, NY. He proudly served in the US Navy from 1981 to 1985 and then transferred into the US Navy Reserves. Sherwood was very much a Patriot. He was a member of the Searsburg and Odessa Church, as well as the Odessa Conservation Club. He was an avid Buffalo Bills fan, bow hunter, fisherman and enjoyed camping, genealogy and his family history. He also enjoyed listening to the 80’s music with the Eagles being his favorite. Movie times with his children were cherished, especially when watching the Wild Hogs and Tenth Kingdom. Sherwood is survived by his “simulated wife” as he would refer to her, JoAnn Freelove; daughter, Alexandria Underdown; son, Jesse Underdown; mother, Betty Underdown; brothers, Jon and Dwight Underdown; nieces and nephew, Casey Underdown, Evan Underdown and Tricia Underdown and her family. Sherwood was predeceased by his father, Norman J. Underdown on February 9th, 2015. Friends and family may call from 11am to 1pm on Tuesday, August 31st at Vedder-Scott & Zinger Funeral Home, 122 N. Genesee St., Montour Falls, NY 14865. A graveside service with Military Honors will be held following at 1:30 pm at Laurel Hill Cemetery on County Rte. 10 in Odessa, NY.
