WELTY, ERIS E. Age 88 of Montour Falls, NY passed away Monday, June 4 at Bethany Manor Skilled Nursing, Horseheads, NY. Eris was born in Cayuta, NY to Loren and Valentine (Rogers) Ayres. She was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Norman F. Welty, in 1995, her daughter, Darlene Fisher (Hank) and her sister Sylvia King (George A). She is survived by her children, Vicky Santarone of Challis, Idaho, Darrell Welty of Elmira Heights, Dale Welty (Donna) of Montour Falls; 12 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, her brother Howard Ayres (Bonnie) and several nieces and nephews. Eris graduated from Odessa High School and lettered in basketball and track. She married Norman in 1941 and became a devoted wife and homemaker. She loved auto racing and helped Norm work on his stock-car, even becoming a champion driver herself winning the Woman's Division Championship at Chemung Speedrome in 1970. She enjoyed hosting card parties, playing golf, attending church, watching NASCAR both on TV and in person and traveling, having visited most of the states by RV. She could be found most summer nights in the grandstands at the area dirt tracks cheering on her two racing sons. She spent her last years battling Alzheimer's and passed away with her loving daughter at her side.
