Obituary of Carl Edmund Raniewicz

On Wednesday, November 21, 2018, Carl Edmund Raniewicz, 92, of Elmira Heights, NY peacefully passed away at St Joseph's Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit. He was born on June 1, 1926 in Elmira, NY, the son of the late Frank and Jane Raniewicz. Carl was a proud World War II veteran that served his country as an Electrician's Mate in the US Navy's Pacific Fleet. He was awarded the American Theatre Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon and the Victory Medal. He was employed as a draftsman at Bendix until his retirement. He was predeceased by Marian Ryant, his loving companion of 50+ years. Together they enjoyed traveling, dining and being patrons of the arts. He is survived by his "almost" daughters, Sandi Devine (Stu Sotherden) of Carlisle, PA and Nan Ryant (Ches Hatstat) and his beloved granddaughter, Jenn Hatstat of Alexandria, VA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Charles Borromeo Church in Elmira Heights on Friday, December 7, 2018 at 10:00am. Burial to follow at St. Peter and Paul's Cemetery with full military honors. Arrangements are under the direction of Vedder and Scott Funeral Home, Montour Falls.
