Obituary of Elwin W. Miller
Elwin "Pete" Miller, 92, of Monterey, NY, passed away on October 27, 2018 at Robert Packer Hospital. He was born on January 26, 1926 in Painted Post, NY, the son of the late Benjamin and Pearl Baird Miller. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Helen Romance who he married on June 25, 1947. He is also survived by his daughter and son-in-law Lorraine and Raymond Ellison of Monterey, NY; a grandson Christopher Ellison of Rochester, NY; and by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, a sister and their spouses, Leo and Virginia Miller, Loren and Kathleen Miller, Marvin and Marilyn Miller, and Irene and Wilson Oakden.
Pete was a World War II US Army Veteran and POW survivor after being captured at the Battle of the Bulge. Upon honorable discharge, he received the European-African Middle Eastern Service Medal and Victory Medal. Pete retired from Ingersoll Rand in 1983 following 41 years of service. He was a longtime volunteer of the Monterey Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, hunting, and was an avid sports fan.
It was Pete's wishes that there be no visitation. Burial will be at the Maltby Cemetery in Monterey, NY at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations in his honor may be made to the Schuyler County Ambulance, P.O. Box 2, 909 S. Decatur St., Watkins Glen, NY 14891.
