Obituary of Donald Scott

Donald S. "Scotty" Scott was born in Rome, NY on October 11, 1946, to Dorothy and Wendell V. Scott. After a long courageous battle with cancer, Scotty went home to be with his Lord Jesus Christ on October 28, 2013. Scotty is survived by his wife of 25 years, Joan Cole-Scott, children; Rich (Marlana) Scott, Wendy (Brian) Cozzens, Chad (Virginia) Maphis, Christian (Stacia) Maphis and grandchildren; Noah, Brianna and Emilee, Kayleigh, Austin, Angelina, and Aleigha, Aidan, with one on the way and adopted grandchildren Lance (Cassandra) McElroy and Laura McElroy, and adopted great-grandchildren Tyson and Aryanna. He is also survived by his siblings Jon (Sandy) Scott, Robert (Janice) Scott, Fredrick (Bonnie) Scott and Darla (Bruce) Kimmey and several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews and best friends Larry and Judy Hall. Scotty wore many "hats" and was a huge inspiration to many during his life. He is retired from the Department of Corrections (22 yrs); retired from US Army (27 yrs); Score Keeper for Odessa Montour Boys Basketball Team (30 years); Odessa Volunteer Fire Department (30+ yrs); Montour Falls Volunteer Fire Department; member of Hose Team for Odessa and Montour Fire Departments; Halpin Fire Equipment; Ward LaFrance Fire Equipment; avid bowler on two leagues; Barber Shop Quartet; involved with Boy Scout Troop 50 and Pack 3050; American Legion Post 676; OM Little League Coach; OM Bus Driver; RSVP Volunteer; Schuyler County Ambulance Association; Schuyler County Dispatch; Squires Drum and Bugle Corp; and Song Leader, Trustee and Soul Winner at Grace Baptist Chapel, Elmira and an avid Geocacher. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, November 2nd at Vedder and Scott Funeral Home from 2:00pm-4:00pm with service to follow. Burial with military honors will be at Laurel Hill Cemetery, Odessa, NY. Friends and family are invited to celebrate the life of Scotty at the Odessa American Legion located at St. Rte. 228, Odessa NY. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a scholarship program in Memory of Scotty at the Odessa Montour Sports Booster Program: 300 College Avenue, Odessa NY 14869. Please include "In Memory of Don Scott" in memo line.
