Obituary of Helen M. VanSkiver

Helen M. VanSkiver, 83, of Odessa, passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2017. She was born in Watkins Glen on September 13, 1933, the daughter of the late Charles H. and Edith M. (Coykendall) Carrigan, and graduated from Odessa-Montour High School. She was a school bus driver with the Odessa-Montour Central School District, and later worked as a book keeper at Cotton-Hanlon and Coastal Lumber. Helen was a member of the Mechanics Club in Montour Falls. She enjoyed bowling, knitting and puzzles, and was also an avid reader. She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Gerald VanSkiver, brothers, Gerald and Robert Carrigan, sisters, Elaine Anderson, Vera Thomas, Ruth Givin, and Marjorie Starkweather. Helen is survived by her daughters, Sharon (Alan) VanSkiver Owens of Elmira Heights, Susan VanSkiver of Horseheads, NY; sons, Daniel (Roberta) VanSkiver of Odessa, NY, Mark VanSkiver of SC; sister, Arlene Sherrouse of Lakeland, FL; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 from 11-1 pm at Vedder and Scott Funeral Home, 122 N. Genesee St., Montour Falls. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 pm followed by burial at Highland Cemetery.
