Joanne Moone

Obituary of Joanne L. Moone

Joanne L. Moone, 61, of Odessa, entered into eternal rest on March 20, 2017, after a long, courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She is survived by her loving husband Dale H. Moone, mother Virginia Bentley Mastriano of Albany, brother Joseph (Barb) Mastriano Sr. of Selkirk, NY, sister Alice M. (Henry) Rozell of N. Carolina, brother Patrick (Donna) Mastriano of Florida, sister Virginia M. (David) Gori of S. Westerlo, NY, and sister-in-law Carol (Ronald) Belczak of Churchville, NY. She was also the Aunt of Joseph Mastriano Jr., Kevin Mastriano, Tricia Spinner, Henry C. Rozell IV, Pasquale Mastriano, Andrew Fishlinger, Emily Fishlinger Smith, Jeffery D. Belczak, Jennifer L. Belczak Sanz and many great-nieces and nephews. Joanne had worked as an Administrative Assistant at Cornell University and an Administrative Manager at the NYS Dept. of State-Office of Fire Prevention and Control, where she met her beloved husband, Dale who worked in the Arson Bureau. They married on June 11, 1983. Starting in 1995 she worked at Corning Community College in the Center for Professional Development as the Assistant Director. While there, she was honored in 2005 with the prestigious RAVE Award – Recognizing A Valuable Employee. She retired in 2012. Joanne will always be remembered as a feisty red-head with a loving caring heart, a lover of animals and nature. Being that she was a 2001 Breast Cancer Survivor, she still maintained a positive attitude in life. She was adamant that although she had cancer, it would NOT define her as a person. As she was so very fond of saying – "Make a new memory every day!" Special thanks to dear friend, Carol L. Peters, neighbor, Mary Kellogg, the staff at Quinlans Pharmacy and the loving staff at CareFirst Hospice. A celebration of Joanne's life will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 11:00 am at Vedder and Scott Funeral Home, 122 N. Genesee St., Montour Falls. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CareFirst Hospice at 3805 Meads Creek Rd., Painted Post, NY 14870 or the Golden Retriever Rescue of Central NY at www.grrcny.org
