Obituary of Shirley Roblyer
Shirley B. Roblyer, 83, of Montour Falls, NY died peacefully at home on Friday, March 15, 2013. Shirley Bradley was born the fifth of nine children in Elmira, NY on September 2, 1929 to Theodore and Eleanor (Wrigley) Bradley. She and her family moved from the Bradley Farms on Elmira's Southside to a smaller family farm on Fitzpatrick Hill Rd. in Montour Falls in the early 1940s. It was here she met, and then married the love of her life, Lewis H. Roblyer, on October 4, 1947 and together they raised four daughters. Shirley was employed as an elementary school secretary for over 30 years at B.C. Cate Elementary in Montour Falls. Shirley loved all things natural. She was especially known for her ability to nurse African violets back to health, mowing her own huge yard until she was 81, and feeding the multitude of birds and squirrels that frequented her yard. She was also known for her baking, especially her desserts and Christmas cookies. She was heavily involved in church volunteering and she also was the unofficial leader of the widow's group in Schuyler County, and a member of several card clubs. She will be greatly missed my many. Shirley was predeceased by her husband, Lewis H. Roblyer in 1981. Shirley is survived by four daughters, Susan R. Walker of Newfield, NY; Debra (Douglas) Volbrecht of Freeville, NY; Jody Roblyer of Upperco, MD; and Wendy (Brian) Schwartz of Warren, MI. Shirley is also survived by her brother, Robert (Carol) Bradley of Spencer, NY; and sisters-in-law Pauline, Sabella, Edna Mae, and Millie; and numerous nieces & nephews. She was predeceased by brothers Theodore Jr., Earl, Edwin, Arthur, and Lavern "Beef", as well as sisters "Pat" Bradley Wagner and Barbara Bradley. Shirley loved her 8 grandchildren (Sean, Jennifer, James, Matthew, Kate, Eddie, Erin and Emily) and 3 great-granddaughters (Ashley, Strephanie, and Annabelle). Friends and family are invited to call Monday, March 18, 5:00-8:00 pm at Vedder & Scott Funeral Home, 122 N. Genesee St., Montour Falls.
