Obituary of Duane R. Derr

Duane R. Derr, 66, of Montour Falls, passed away on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at home. He was born in Elmira on July 25, 1950, the son of Raymond and Martha (Lisk)) Derr, and graduated from Elmira Free Academy. On August 18, 1972, he married his wife of 44 years, Elizabeth Daugherty. Duane had a great passion for music. He was lead guitarist for Silver Eagle Band and Wild Country. He was an avid snowmobiler and also a former volunteer fireman with the Odessa Volunteer Fire Department. Duane loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, and a brother Ronald Derr. Duane is survived by his wife Elizabeth; four children, Stephanie (Paul) Marion of Cayuta, Susan Beebe of Alpine, Richard (April) Derr of Montour Falls, and Christine Derr of Alpine; brothers, Dennis (Penny) Derr, and Gerald (Cindy) Derr all of Elmira; six grandchildren, Matt (Ariel) Lauper, Rebecca Lauper, Kyle Beebe, Michael Hancock, Ashlynn Derr, and Kendall McCracken; two great grandchildren, Alexander and Samantha Lauper; and by several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 from 5-7 pm at Vedder and Scott Funeral Home. A celebration of his life will follow at 7:00 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the family for funeral expenses.
