Obituary of Skeet Seymour

Merritt L. "Skeet" Seymour, 78, of Odessa, passed away on Thursday, January 19, 2017. He was born in Big Flats on January 23, 1938, the son of Arthur and Elvira Seymour. He served with the US Navy from 1956-1959 on the USS Leyt. He retired from the Odessa-Montour Central Schools in 1993 after 23 years of service. Mr. Seymour was a member of the Cayutaville United Methodist Church, Odessa Volunteer Fire Department, Montour Moose Lodge #426, and was a member of the color guard at the Horseheads American Legion. Skeet enjoyed woodworking and macramé. He was predeceased by his parents, and brothers, Frank and Howard Seymour. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Ellen; children, Darryl Seymour (Betty Hayes) of Montour Falls, Wayne (Sandy) Eccleston of Newfield, Dennis Seymour (Cindy Schaner) of Phoenix, AZ, Scott (Karen) Eccleston of Palm Beach, FL., Peggy (Keith) Jelliff of Montour Falls, Bill (Lissa) Seymour of Alpine, and Terry (Lisa) Eccleston of Odessa; sisters, Rena Able of Knoxville, PA and Betty Benson of Millerton, PA; brothers, Art Seymour of Erin, and Al Seymour of Candor; 13 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A celebration of his life will be held in the spring at a date and time to be announced. Contributions may be made in his memory to the Odessa Volunteer Fire Department or the Cayutaville United Methodist Church.
