Obituary of Charles Wilson

Charles R. "Chuck" Wilson, Sr., 80, of Monterey, passed away on Friday, October 14, 2016 at home. He was born in Corning on September 4, 1936, the son of the late William E. and Wilma (Kilburn) Wilson. He graduated from Bradford Central School and went on to serve with the US Air Force from 1953-1956. Chuck was a police officer in Corning during the early 1960's. He then worked as a truck driver with Hayt's Construction, before going on to work at Poly O Dairy, where he retired. After retirement, he worked part time for the railroad. Chuck was a former member of the VFW in Corning, a member of the "Coffee Club", where he made coffee at the Monterey Fire Department, and was a volunteer with the Schuyler County Food Bank. He played guitar in the bands, "Rhythm Masters" and the "Southern Tier Express" for fifty years. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Goldie; four sons, Charles Wilson, Jr. of Beaver Dams, William (Gina) Wilson of Sullivan, MS, James (Lynette) Wilson of Beaver Dams, and Richard (Angie Soles) of Dundee; seven grandchildren, Jeremy Wilson, Alyssa Wilson, Elizabeth Wilson, Nathan Wilson, Erica Gills, Ryan Wilson and Megan Wilson; several great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews, Brenda and Chris McCann, Kevin and Lee Wilson, Billy, Lisa, Bonnie and Earl Wilson. He was predeceased by his brothers and sister, William Wilson, Laura Mae Overstrom, and Robert Wilson. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday, October 21, 2016 from 11-3 pm at Vedder and Scott Funeral Home, 122 N. Genesee St., Montour Falls. A reception will follow at the Monterey Fire Department. Burial will be in Bath National Cemetery at a later date.
