Obituary of Phillip Harrington

Phillip Clayton Harrington, 67, of Alpine, passed away due to an agricultural accident at home on Sunday, July 3, 2016. He was born in Montour Falls on February 3, 1949, the son of the late C. William and Lillian Harrington, and graduated from Odessa-Montour High School in 1967. He married the former Melissa Woodward on September 26, 1970 in Watkins Glen. When Phil was a teenager, he worked at Redner's Market on Main St. in Montour Falls. Following his time there, he worked at what is now Cargill Salt in Watkins Glen. Phil was employed for several years as a computer operator at S.M. Flickinger's in Elmira until 1983. Prior to that, he was a computer operator at Langmuir Lab at Cornell University. Phil was the proud owner of Phil's Hideaway in Odessa during the late 1980's and early 1990's, serving pizza, subs, and ice cream. It was a popular place for the young and old in those days. In his later years, Phil was a football coach, wrestling coach, baseball coach, as well as a school bus driver for the Odessa-Montour Central School District. He enjoyed camping, outdoor activities, classic cars, fantasy football, and was a member of the Horseheads Snowmobile Club. Phil would help anyone needing assistance with a project, no matter how big or small. Phil is survived by his loving wife, Melissa Lo Harrington; son Corey Blue Harrington; sisters and brothers, Judy White Wonder (Art), Sherie Bradley (Daniel), David Harrington (Robin), Daniel Harrington (Cynthia), Hollie Harrington Tenney (Julie); and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, and brothers, Jerry Harrington and Patrick Harrington. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Saturday, July 9, 2016 from 2-5 pm at Vedder and Scott Funeral Home, 122 N. Genesee St., Montour Falls. Private burial services will be held by the family at Montour Falls Cemetery at a later date. Contributions may be directed to the Odessa-Montour Central District football program, 300 College Ave., Odessa, NY 14869 or the Odessa Fire Department, 300E. Main St., Odessa, NY 14869.
