Obituary of William Griswold

William Griswold, 86, of Watkins Glen, entered unto rest on Sunday, March 27, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on September 4, 1929 to Theodore and Genevieve (Bond) Griswold. He graduated from high school then became an airman in the United States Air Force. Bill married his lovely wife Shirley (Russell) on June 5, 1969 in Indianapolis, Indiana, where they shared the love of racing. After 37 years as an inspector for General Motors, he retired in January of 1986. He was a member of many clubs and organizations such as the Sons of Italy, Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and the Moose Lodge to name a few. Bill had a strong love and passion for his family. His hobbies and interests were being a collector of many things, working with his hands, the outdoors, raising Bassett Hounds, and races at the Indianapolis Speedway. Bill was predeceased by his parents and his sister Alice. He is survived by his wife, Shirley; daughters, Gail Fraboni, Gwyn House, both of Watkins Glen, Gail Russell of Eustis, FL; brothers, Franz "Dick" (Beth) Griswold and Theodore (Carol) Griswold, Jr.; grandchildren, Tammy (Ed) Honour, Robert (Theresa) House, Mickey (Nancy) Fraboni, Michelle (Earl) Fraboni-Gaylor, David Fraboni, Jr., Brenda Planty and Brieann Broderwick. He is also survived by 17 great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Our grandpa Bill was an incredible man. We believed he was indestructible. He was the strongest, yet gentlest man we knew. His love for us all was seen in everything that he did. He was the man who looked after us all. The man we wanted to be like. So "Cheers" to the man he didn't have to be…leaving his thumbprint on our hearts. Arrangements have been entrusted to Vedder and Scott Funeral Home, Montour Falls.
