Obituary of James Monroe
James B. Monroe, 82, of Cayuta, passed away on Friday, March 27, 2015 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Copenhagen, NY on May 11, 1932, the son of the late Leon and Hilda (Cota) Monroe, and graduated from Adams Center High School in 1951. He married the former Sandra Wright on October 16, 1978 at Montour Falls United Methodist Church.
Jim worked as meat manager for Acme Markets in Watkins Glen, retiring in 1994. He was also a dairy farmer for many years. Each day, Jim and his wife Sandy enjoyed having coffee with their friends Terry and Kathy Gardner. He loved his dog Sweet Pea and his cat Miss Kitty.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years, Sandra; his children, Julia (Charles) Ferry of Constantia, Janice (Timothy) Collins of Cayuta, James (Toni) Monroe of Cayuta, Jeffrey (Cynthia) Monroe of Elmira, and Jason (Mary) Monroe of Trumansburg; brother, Frank (Jean) Monroe of Watertown; special brother, John Dixon of Naples, NC; sister-in-law, Nadine Monroe of Syracuse; 14 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother Leon, Monroe in 1997, step granddaughter, Kaylah Morse in 2010, and a great granddaughter, Ava Marie Collins in 2008.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for a celebration of Jim's life on Thursday, April 2, 2015 from 1-5 pm at the home of Janice and Timothy Collins, 5875 Meadow Lane, Cayuta. Burial will be in Montour Cemetery at a later date. Contributions may be made in his memory to CareFirst.
