Obituary of Wayne Atwell

Wayne George Atwell, 80, of Odessa, NY, died on Tuesday June 17, 2014. Born in Dupont, PA in 1933 to George and Charlotte Atwell, he graduated from Corning Free Academy in 1951. He enlisted in the Army, serving in the Army Security Agency from 1954 to 1956, stationed in West Germany. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Hobart College in Geneva, NY in 1961. Mr. Atwell spent twenty-five years working for GTE, retiring as Director of Benefits. He was a member of the vestry and a lay reader at Christ and Holy Trinity in Westport, CT. He loved sports cars and raced Lightning Sailboats at Cedar Point Yacht Club in Westport, CT. He is survived by his wife of fifty-six years, Eleanor Clark Atwell, two daughters, Martha Atwell of Los Angeles California and Stacey Atwell of Portland, Oregon and his three grandchildren, Alexander Stick of Chaplin, CT, Charlotte Stick of Portland, Oregon and Mavis Figuls of Los Angeles, CA. Alexander Stick lived with, and cared for Wayne during the last months of his life. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 24, 2014 at 3:00 pm at St. John's Episcopal Church in Catherine. Burial will be at Sampson Veteran Memorial Cemetery in Romulus.
