Obituary of Margarete Berner

Margarete L. (Peggy) Berner, 71, of Alpine, passed away on Monday, March 17, 2014 at Corning Hospital following declining health problems. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio on September 14, 1942, the daughter of the late Louis and Tillie Krizman Peterlin. Peggy grew up on a small farm in Euclid, Ohio, which had cows, sheep and pigs. Peggy was married to her loving husband Kenneth on July 6, 1968. She worked as a secretary for General Electric in Cleveland, and later for Schuyler County Home Health Agency. After the birth of her son, Peggy became a homemaker and stay at home mom. For many years, she loved her birds and animals, which consisted of dogs, cats, and goats. In her younger years with good health, Peggy enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing, reading, croqueting, and bowling in a mixed league with her husband. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth; a son, David (Melissa Cookson) Berner; granddaughter, Hayden; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Saturday from 2:00-3:30 pm at Vedder and Scott Funeral Home, 122 N. Genesee St., Montour Falls. A service will follow at 3:30 pm. Burial will take place at Laurel Hill Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation at www.kidney.org for research to cure kidney disease.
