Obituary of Bernard Root

Bernard C. (BC) Root Age 58, of Virginia Beach, VA, formerly of Cayuta, NY, passed away on Saturday, September 21, 2013. The family will receive friends and relatives at the Vedder and Scott Funeral Home, 122 N. Genesee Street, Montour Falls, on Saturday, September 28, from 1 p.m. with funeral service following at 2 p.m.; and burial and committal service with full military honors will be held immediately following at the Cayuta Cemetery. He is survived by his daughters, Michelle Davies (Alan) of Sterling, VA; Andrea Delgado (Eddie) of Suffolk, VA; Patty Wallace (Alan) of Jerseyville, IL; and Pam DeLooze; sister, Susan (James) Antes of Horseheads; brothers Albert (Charlene) of Rock Stream; Roger (Liz) of Wellsville; Kevin (Mary) of Van Etten; Stanley (Clara) of Williamsport, PA; grandchildren Kaylee, Gabrielle and Chelsea Urschel; Corey and Miranda Prentice; Hailey, Sabrina, and Kaydence Delgado; Seth Root; Johnathan Newingham; Katherine Wallace; Amber DeLooze; and Christopher Wheeler; along with several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Elden K. Root; his mother, Shirley Hartford Root; and brother, Elden K. Root Jr. BC honorably served his country for 20 years, retiring from the U.S. Navy in 1993 as an air traffic controller. Upon his retirement he worked for Maersk then Direct Chassis Link until the time of his death. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
