Gayle was so unassuming, down to earth, and welcoming, in many ways ahead of her time. She and I seemed to take turns being elected as Clerk of Session at Celebration of Life PCUSA in Mesa, and when she was the Clerk, she often coveted my preliminary review of her Session minutes to make sure she had recorded everything correctly; she usually didn't need my review, but I enjoyed humoring her because it was fun just to be with her one-on-one. She was also a dedicated and faithful commissioner to Presbytery for many, many years, and in 1989 (I think) she was a commissioner to the General Assembly (as I recall she was excited, overwhelmed at the task, and didn't want to miss a thing!). Rest in peace, my friend; you lived the example a good and faithful servant.
