Obituary of William H. Osborne

William "Bill" Osborne, 69, of Watkins Glen, NY passed away on Thursday, June 29, 2023 at home. He was born in Montour Falls, New York on May 28, 1954, the son of William and Bessie Osborne. Bill married Teresa "Tessie" (Thorpe)Osborne on August 28, 1976 in Reynoldsville, New York. He was a heavy equipment operator and foreman at the Schuyler County Highway Department for 40 years, until his retirement in 2016. He worked one season at Captain Bill's in Watkins Glen.. Bill was a very devoted husband, father and grandfather! He enjoyed hunting, fishing and every moment he could spend with grandchildren and animals. Bill was a mentor to anyone looking to learn new skills or wanting a hunting and fishing partner. He was predeceased by his father, William Osborne in 2002; father-in-law, Roland Thorpe in 2021; brother-in-law, Kevin "Pokey" Thorpe in 2009; and brothers, Michael in 1981 and Paul in 2021. Bill is survived by his wife of 47 years, Tessie; two daughters, Ellen (Tim) Kathan of Horseheads, NY and Kelly (Tom) Skerven of Wisconsin Rapids, WI; mother, Bessie Osborne living at Seneca View Nursing, Montour Falls, NY; mother-in-law Roberta Thorpe of Reynoldsville, NY; in-laws, Dan and Joan Thorpe of Mecklenburg, NY, Trina and Tim Wood of Burdett, NY, Charles Thorpe and Mary Morse of Burdett, NY, Matthew Thorpe, Erin, NY, Martha Thorpe of Burdett, NY; four grandchildren, Jenna, Zachery, and Skyler Kathan, and Axton Skerven; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins; and by many grand dogs and cats along with a multitude of adopted grandkids. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, July 5, 2023 from 12-2 pm at Vedder-Scott & Zinger Funeral Home, 122 North Genesee St., Montour Falls, NY. His service will follow at 2:00 pm with burial in the Union Cemetery of Hector. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Care First Hospice, 3805 Meads Creek Road, Painted Post, NY 14870.
