LeGrand Silliman

Obituary of LeGrand E. Silliman

Lee Silliman, age 93, of Montour Falls, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on what would have been his 69th wedding anniversary, October 10, 2022. Lee was born on June 16, 1929 in Montour Falls and lived all of his 93 years in the family home. Lee was predeceased by his wife of 68 years, Norma, in December 2021. He is survived by his children: Carl (Dian) Silliman, Alice Silliman, Carol Tuton, Donna (Michael) Young, and Winona (Paul) Beebe; as well as four grandchildren: Michael Tuton, Ryan Tuton, Amber Beebe, and Bryon (Aubrey) Beebe; and 2 great grandchildren. Lee was a dairy, then beef farmer for over 60 years. He was known by many throughout the community for his skills in repairing refrigeration equipment, especially for local commercial businesses. Lee also enjoyed working with electricity and had installed service in homes and garages. At times, Lee would even identify the source of local power outages and inform the power company so that they could restore service more quickly. Lee spent much of his time in his garage where he enjoyed repairing, fabricating and tinkering on all sorts of things. Friends and neighbors learned to drop off their items needing repair and he would work on them there. Whether it was your ice machine, electric motor, tractor or something else, you could count on Lee. He liked to fix things for people so that they didn't have to buy new and often bartered for his services. Lee loved to play cards with family and friends. He was fond of Euchre and Scat, especially when he won! At Lee's request there will be no calling hours. A private memorial service will be held at the family's convenience with burial at Montour Cemetery, Montour Falls, NY.
