Obituary of Jean Phyllis Webster Williams

Jean Phyllis Webster Williams, age 93, of Penn Yan NY, formerly of Montour Falls, passed away Tuesday, August 9th 2022, at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital. Jean was born in Arcade, NY on December 24th, 1928, the daughter of the late Horace I. and Myrtle M. Webster. She married Charles H. “Chub” Williams on October 5th, 1947. She and Chub owned Webster & Williams Red & White grocery store in Montour Falls where they added on a Laundromat. They also owned and operated Williams Distributer of Utica Club Beer, Molson and Canada Dry soda for many years, until they sold out to start Williams Electric with their son, Jeffrey, where she and Chub worked until retirement in 1996. They retired to their home on Seneca Lake where they enjoyed living next to their son, Steven. They loved the grandchildren, never ceasing to take them water skiing and spending nights with bonfires and all. She was the president of the Schuyler County Democratic Party where she was always heavily involved with the Party, particularly with the JFK election and beyond. She was a member of the Pink Ladies at Schuyler Hospital where she was past president, and a member of the PTA at Odessa- Montour School. Jean volunteered at the Montour Falls Library, Literacy Programs, and at the Baptist Churches in Montour Falls and Himrod. She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church in Montour Falls. Jean was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed sewing, quilting, and all kinds of needlework. She also enjoyed reading and cooking, as she was a most excellent cook and housekeeper, and of course she enjoyed her grandchildren. Jean was an excellent mother, always devoted to her kids’ pursuits, making cookies for the classrooms for every birthday and holiday, attending almost all their sporting events and enjoying a boat ride with her husband and kids after almost every meal in the summer. She was always a stylish dresser, along with her husband and children. Jean is survived by her daughter, K’ythrn “Kathy” A. Irons (Doug) of Atlanta, GA and summers Himrod; grandchildren, Christina Williams Jackson (Dean) of Big Flats, NY, Ronelle Williams Thornton (Adam) of Spencer, NY, Cole Joseph Williams (Kimberly) of Londonberry, NH, Nicholas Anthony Williams (Kirsten) of Ithaca, NY, and Charles “Chas” Jeffrey Williams of Burdett, NY; great grandchildren, Henry, Mitchel and Teddy Jackson all of Big Flats, Mason King and Gabrielle Mae Williams both of Londonberry, NH, and newborn Anthony Nickolas Williams of Ithaca, NY; first cousin Donny Bruce King of Arcade, NY and nieces Jody Hall Swartout of Odessa, Julie Hall Cowan, Bobbi Hall Smorol and Stacy Hall of Odessa. In addition to her parents, Jean was predeceased by her husband, Charles H. “Chub” Williams of Montour Falls then Himrod; and sons, Jeffrey Charles Williams of Burdett and Steven King Williams of Himrod. Friends and family are invited to attend a graveside service for Jean at the Grove Mount Cemetery in Himrod on Saturday, August 13th, 2022 at 11am.
