Obituary of Leslie George Haller
Leslie George Haller, 89, of Odessa, NY, passed away on Wednesday, June 22, 2022 at Cayuga Medical Center in Ithaca, NY. He was born in Montour Falls, NY on June 20, 1933, the son of the late George and Dora (Edsall) Haller. Les graduated from Odessa-Montour Central School with the class of 1952. He then served with the US Army from 1952-1954 during the Korean War in Panama. On May 5, 1956, he married B. Carolyn Hicks in the Erin Methodist Church.
Leslie was a plumber and steamfitter with Local Union #109 in Ithaca for 59 years. He was a member of the Montour Falls United Methodist Church, a 50 year member of the Montour Falls Fire Department, a member of the "Seneca Chiefs" Drum and Bugle Corp. in Watkins Glen, and a 50 year member of the Mechanics Club. He was also a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge in Montour Falls and a member of the Montour Moose Lodge.
Les was an avid pilot and enjoyed flying small planes for many years, particularly his Cessna. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and riding a Harley Davidson in his younger years.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, B. Carolyn (Hicks) Haller; two daughters, Nancy (Haller) Fitzgerald of Hermosa Beach, CA and Cynthia (Haller) Storms of WI; one son, Philip and his wife Oksana Haller of Peoria, AZ; one brother, Louis J. Haller of North Carolina; nine grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; and by many special nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Lee (Haller) Johnson and by his son-in-law, Matthew Fitzgerald.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday, June 30, 2022 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Montour Falls United Methodist Church, 124 Owego St., Montour Falls. His funeral service will begin at 12:00 pm at the church followed by burial with military honors in Montour Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Montour Falls Fire Department, 111 Lee St., Montour Falls, NY 14865 or the Odessa Fire Department, 300 Main St., Odessa, NY 14869.
