Obituary of Joan Hall
Joan S. Hall, 79, of Alpine, NY died on Thursday May 19, 2022 at her home. Joan
was born in Elmira, NY to Elizabeth "Polly" Kime and Basil Smith in 1943. In
1960 Joan was crowned Miss Odessa. She graduated from Odessa-Montour High
School in 1961. After graduation, Joan attended the Ithaca School of Nursing
where she graduated coincidentally with her future mother in law, Lillian Campbell
in 1962. Joan married her high school sweetheart, Duane B. Campbell in 1964. The
couple moved to Philadelphia, PA to work. In 1970 Joan & Duane moved to
Upstate NY outside of Syracuse with their two young girls. Joan worked as a LPN
Home Health Aide until 1976. She loved playing volleyball, boating and fishing.
She would often pull fishing line from her pockets and be ready to throw a line
anywhere she found water. Joan had a great sense of humor and loved to tell stories
about all her adventures as the youngest child of seven siblings. Later in life Joan
took up quilting and sewed several beautiful quilts. A few years after losing her
husband in 1994, she married Oscar Hall of Alpine, NY. They retired together at
their Cool-Lea Camp home on Cayuta Lake and wintered at their mobile home in
Inverness, Florida. She is predeceased by two sisters, Beverly and Joy; three
brothers, "Jack", Jerry and Ray and her husband Duane B. Campbell. She is
survived by her husband Oscar Hall; brother Dale Smith of Odessa, NY; two
daughters Melinda M Campbell of Farmington, NM and Deborah J Campbell of
Watkins Glen, NY; one son Jeffrey D. Campbell of Syracuse, NY; three
grandchildren and three great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family will have a private service at Laurel Hill Cemetery on Tuesday May 24,
2022.
