Obituary of Frederick R. Scott

Frederick Richard Scott, age 72, longtime resident of Schuyler County, passed away Thursday, April 21, 2022 in Roanoke, Virginia after living with Dementia for almost 10 years. Fred was born in Montour Falls, NY on December 30, 1949, the son of the late Wendell & Dorothy (Smith) Scott. He graduated from Odessa-Montour High School in 1968 and joined the Air Force serving in Vietnam 1971-1973. He completed his Assoc. degree from CCC and graduated from Simmons School of Mortuary Science both in 1976. He joined his Father in business at the Vedder and Scott Inc., Funeral Homes in Montour Falls and Odessa, NY until retiring in 2016. In the summer of 1978, Fred officially met his wife Bonnie (Kast) while singing in the Peach Orchard Choir in Montour Falls. Although their paths crossed in 1976 at a concert where she was a featured soloist. They were married in July 1980 and have a daughter Keri L. Scott. Fred was dedicated to serving his community. He donated his time as Manager of the Montour Cemetery until his retirement following his Father’s term. He served many years on the St. Mary’s/St. Benedict’s Cemetery Board. He was a member and past President of the Odessa Lions Club. He served as a Trustee on the Odessa Village Board from 1984 – 1990. He was a member of the Watkins Glen Chamber of Commerce and served on the SCOPED board for several years. He was a member of the local American Legion Post 676 and a member of the Odessa Baptist Church. He was a 22 year stomach cancer survivor and participated in many local Relay for Life Events with friends and family. Fred loved jigsaw puzzles, cats (especially his pal Sugar) and traveling when he could get time away. He enjoyed singing with the Elmira Choral Society, Schuyler County Peach Orchard Society and local church choirs. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie (Kast) Scott, daughter, Keri Scott, sister, Darla (Bruce) Kimmey, brothers Robert (Janice) Scott, and Jon (Sandy) Scott and several nieces and nephews. Fred was predeceased by his brother, Donald (Joan) Scott and nephew Jon Scott Jr. (Jim Munez). Friends and relatives are invited to call on Thursday, July 28, 2022, 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm at the Vedder-Scott & Zinger Funeral Home, 122 N. Genesee St., Montour Falls, NY. All are welcome to a Celebration of Life Service on Saturday, July 30, 2022, 3pm at the Odessa Baptist Church, 111 Fowler Place, Odessa, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions may be made to Schuyler County Humane Society, 124 Marina Dr., Montour Falls, NY 14865 or the Odessa Baptist Church, 111 Fowler Place, Odessa, NY 14869.
