Obituary of Howard Fox

Howard M. Fox Jr. Passed away peacefully on August 28, 2013, Howard was born on August 1, 1930 in Elmira NY. Howard is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Harriette Neal Fox; children, Cindy Emerson (Gary) and Deborah Griffen (Eric); cherished grandchildren, Brian Emerson (Val), Christie Emerson (Kyle), Cody Evans (Natalie) and Katie Griffen (Gerard). Also surviving are his Aunt Dorothy Berardo, cousin David Sheen and loving nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his faithful canine companion, Abby. Howard graduated from EFA, attended Ryder College and was drafted into the Army. He served in Germany during the Korean War Conflict and he was proud to be a member of the Galeton, PA VFW. Howard retired from Marine Midland Bank and later from Elmira Savings & Loan in Elmira, as Assistant VP. He was a scout leader in Pine City for 20 years and took his scouts on many adventures including rafting down Pine Creek, PA and participating in many Klondike Derbys. He was on the Board of Directors of Junior Achievement and loved taking his grandson Cody to help the Artic League on many Christmas mornings over the years. He loved the outdoors, especially his cottage on Seneca Lake, his camp on Pine Creek in PA and the Adirondack mountains of which he and his family climbed many peaks. Howard was a very generous and caring man who would give his time and resources to those in need, and he was a lifelong friend to many. The family has planned a private memorial service, but those wishing to remember Howard may do so through memorials to the Artic League in Elmira or to the Food Bank of the Southern Tier. Howard will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. To send the family a condolence, please visit www.vedderandscottfuneralhome.com
