Obituary of Richard Ervay

Richard (Dick) Ervay Jr., 70, of Montour Falls, New York, went to be with his Lord on June 18, 2013 after a brave battle of 18 years with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). Calling hours will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 pm on Saturday, June 22nd, at Vedder and Scott Funeral Home, 122 North Genesee Street, Montour Falls, New York 14865. Funeral service will be held immediately following with burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Odessa, New York. Dick was born in Elmira, New York on April 27, 1943. He worked for the NYS Department of Transportation for 30 years. Dick was a member of Cayutaville Methodist Church and enjoyed many visits from Pastor Steve DeWalt and members of the congregation. For many years Dick was a member of the Millport Volunteer Fire Department. Dick was a very active outdoors person who enjoyed hunting, and working with his hands, building, or working on his yard. He enjoyed NASCAR, playing cards, bowling, and most of all was dedicated to his church. Dick is predeceased by his father, Richard Ervay Sr., and Arthur Granville, Stepfather, and Robert Granville. Dick is survived by his wife, Gloria of 35 years, his mother Ruth Matejka Granville of Erin, New York, siblings; Connie Onesky of Granite City, Illinois, Jeanne Dolaway of Erin, New York, and Joanne (Buel) Lungsford, Georgia. He is also survived by his children; Ronald Ervay of North Carolina, Jeffrey Ervay (Michele) of Horseheads, New York, Brian (Patricia) Ervay of Watkins Glen, New York, and Corey (Megan) of Lebanon, Pennsylvania, stepchildren Cindy (Charles) Whitford of Horseheads, New York, Sherry Stigall of Melbourne, Florida. He is also survived by many grandchildren and one great grandchild, and his special pet and companion, Holly. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to the Humane Society of Schuyler County, P.O. Box 427, Montour Falls, New York 14865. We are thankful for good neighbors who have been with us these many years. The family is also so very appreciative of the care given by Community Home and Health Care of Ithaca. Special thanks to Joan Murphy and the many dedicated and compassionate nurses that provided comfort and care for Richard in his home.
