Obituary of Richard S. Palmer

Richard S. "Dick" Palmer, age 79 of Alpine NY, made his final journey home on December 7, 2021. He was born in Barton, NY on January 10, 1942 the son of the late Ernest Palmer & Leatha (Palmer) Cantaloupe. Dick loved his time growing up on the Palmer Farm in Erin with his grandparents, as he talked about it often. He worked most of his adult life at Kennedy Valve in Elmira where he was Foreman in Assembly. After that, Dick went on to proudly serve as the Superintendent of Public Works for the Village of Odessa, under Mayor Bob Carpenter who was a mentor & like a second father to Dick. He retired from the DPW in Odessa after serving for over 10 years. After retiring, you'd often find Dick at car shows, taking great pride in showing off his 1923 Ford T-Bucket, just one of the many fast cars he owned. He enjoyed spending time with friends at Montour Marina Campground, or scouting out & finding rare Hot Wheels with his grandson Kyle, the apple of his eye. Dick loved fast cars, motorcycles, racing & Dale Earnhardt Sr. Dick was the guy everyone loved, a straight shooter who often told it "his way". Dick is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years, Connie (Gee) Palmer, his daughter & son in law, Kristina and Blake Pierce of Montour Falls, Grandsons Kyle (Olivia) States of Odessa and Cole Pierce of Montour Falls. Brother & Sister in Law Mike and Lori Cantaloupe, their daughter Morgan of Port St. John Florida, Sister in Law & Brother in Law Linda (Gee) & Curt Bolden of Horseheads, additional Grandchildren Ryan, Mackenzie & Kristina and 3 Great-Grandchildren. And his very spoiled pup, Jeter. Dick was predeceased by his son, Scott W. Palmer in 2012. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Sunday, December 12, 2021 from 2:00-4:00 pm at Vedder-Scott & Zinger Funeral Home, 122 N. Genesee St., Montour Falls.
