Obituary of K'ythrn A. Irons

K'ythrn "Kathy" Ann Williams Irons, 69, of Kennesaw, GA passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2024. She was born to Charles "Chub" and Jean Webster Williams, April 1, 1955 in Montour Falls, N.Y. With her family, she lived in Montour Falls, spending idyllic and happy summers in Himrod, N.Y. on the shores of the Seneca Lake. She attended Odessa-Montour High School, Corning Community College and Keuka College (Penn Yan, N.Y.) graduating with a bachelor's degree majoring in Art. After becoming a born-again Christian and being water-baptized July 5th, 1980, she moved to Cortland, N.Y. to join Cortland Covenant Community Church, later called New Life Fellowship. As her Art major hinted at, she loved color and design, and worked in retail sales, first at Howlands in Ithaca N.Y., then Chappels Department store in Cortland, N.Y. Her co-worker Gloria Werninck introduced Kathy to her nephew and future husband, Douglas ("Doug") Irons the day after Thanksgiving, 1983. Instantly smitten, he quit his job in Albany N.Y. and moved to the Cortland area in June 1984. They married May 30th, 1987 and moved to the metro Atlanta area in 1990, making their home in Kennesaw, GA starting in 2002. Kathy loved all things Upstate N.Y., especially Seneca Lake, sailing, water- and snow-skiing, and bicycling. She loved all creatures, especially dogs and cats, who loved her in return. Kathy and Doug never had children, but were "dog parents" to Cherise, Daisy, and Angel over the years. She is survived by her loving husband, Doug Irons; nephews, Cole, Nick and Chas Williams; nieces, Christina Williams Jackson and Ronelle Williams Thornton; cousins, Don King, Jody Hall Swartout, Julee Hall Cowen, Bobbi Hall Smoral, Stacy Hall; grand-nephews, Henry, Mitchell, and Teddy Jackson, Mason Williams, and Anthony Williams; and grand-niece Gabrielle Williams. Kathy is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Jean Williams and two brothers, Jeffrey and Steve Williams. Kathy will be missed by many but her memory will forever be in their hearts. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday, May 3, 2024 from 5-7 pm at Vedder-Scott & Zinger Funeral Home, 122 N. Genesee St., Montour Falls, NY. Kathy's funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at 11:00 am at the funeral home followed by burial in Grove Mount Cemetery in Himrod. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the SPCA, Mercy Corps, Keuka College in Penn Yan, N.Y., or Liberty Church of Marietta, GA.
