Obituary of Marian H. Habbershaw

Marian Anne Hodge Habbershaw, 97, formerly of Montour Falls, NY, passed away on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at Bethany Manor in Horseheads, NY. She was born in Elmira, NY on February 14, 1926 the daughter of the late John E. Hodge and Leda M. (Andrews) Hodge.

Marian was a member of the Montour Falls United Methodist Church and a long-time member of the Order of the Eastern Star Fern-Tyrone Chapter #142.

She was predeceased by her husband, Richard R. Habbershaw and by her sister, Shirley B. Reynolds.

Marian is survived by her children, John (Mary Beth) Habbershaw, Douglas (Sherry) Habbershaw and Linda (Thomas) Van Galder; eight grandchildren, Glen, Douglas, Jr., Eric, Michelle, Jason, Daniel, Michael, and Thomas; ten great grandchildren (the 10th great grandchild being born the morning of her death on 11/8/23); and by many nieces and nephews.

Marian attended Cook Academy in Montour Falls, where she was honored to be valedictorian of her class. Upon the closing of Cook Academy, she finished her senior year in the first graduating class of Odessa High School in 1944. She worked for Shepard Niles Crane and Hoist in her early adult years and then, until she retired, she worked with her family's insurance agency (John E. Hodge Agency,Inc.).

A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Montour Cemetery.
