Obituary of Jane E. Wood

Jane E. Wood, 76, of Hector, passed away on Monday, May 18, 2020in Rochester after an extended illness. She was born in Montour Falls on November 11, 1943, the daughter of the late Lawrence and Marguerite (Mead) Abbey. Jane retired as owner of J + J Redemption, B + W Logging, Wood's Tree Service and Wood's Last Stand in 2018. Jane enjoyed visiting with all of her customers. She had a heart of gold which made it easy for her to acquire many good friends over the years of being a local entrepreneur. Jane was a very hard worker, but when she wasn't working, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She also played a great part in the lives of two of her grandchildren, Jonathan and Jennifer. She especially enjoyed hunting and fishing. Some of her favorite hunting trips were to South Africa and New Foundland, and fishing trip to Alaska. She was predeceased by her husband, John Wood; her brothers, Wayne, Jack, and Ronald; and sister, Joyce Spinning. Jane is survived by three sons, Lawrence Grant, Bill (Kathy)Grant, and Christopher (Shana)Grant; step sons, Jim (Dianne)Wood and Tim (Trina)Wood; step daughters, Deb Fowler, Tammy (Tim) Schiewe, Suzanne (Mark) Peterle, and Amy Ray; a sister, June Romo; brother, Ray (Norma) and Nelson Abbey; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren; and by several nieces, nephews and cousins. Services will be announced at a later date. Burial will be in Seneca Union Cemetery in Valois. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Valois, Logan, Hector Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 46, Hector, NY 14841 or the Hector-Pert Memorial Library, P.O. Box 82, Hector, NY 14841.
