Obituary of John Bruce Allen

John "Bruce" Allen, 76, of Watkins Glen, New York, and formerly of Duxbury, MA, died on Tuesday, September 24, 2019. He was born in Bangor, Maine on November 13, 1942, the son of the late John N. and Mabel C. (MacPherson) Allen. Bruce graduated from Weymouth High School in 1960 and later from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 1964. On June 27, 1964, he married the former Nancy H. Bullard in Germantown, NY. They met in college and moved to Duxbury, MA in 1968 where they raised their children. Bruce was a teacher at Hanson Public Schools for over 20 years. He then opened an automotive repair shop in Pembroke, MA where he worked for another 20 years until he retired in 2003. Bruce had many hobbies and interests, and made friendships through those affiliations. He was an avid sportsman, fisherman, and hunter. He loved automotive restoration and classic cars. He was a member of the Pembroke Rod and Gun Club and refereed at clay sporting events. During the winters, he and his wife Nancy enjoyed traveling to the mid-west in their RV. They retired to a home in Watkins Glen, NY for summer and fall, and spent winters and spring in Fort Myers, FL, further widening their circle of friends. Bruce is survived by his wife of 55 years, Nancy H. Allen; a daughter, Kristin L. (Joseph) McLellan of Plymouth, MA; a son, Erik B. (Robin Giles) Allen of Pembroke, MA; two sisters, Mary Jane (Allen) Williams of Brewster, MA and Priscilla (Allen) Ishiguiri of White Plains, NY; four grandchildren, Justin and Scott Allen, and Sean and Curtis McLellan; and by many nieces and nephews. There will be an open house to celebrate Bruce's life on Saturday, September 28, 2019 beginning at 5:00 pm and after at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Kristin and Joe McLellan, 2 Pierce Ave., Plymouth , MA.
