Obituary of Donald Flatt
Donald A. "Don" Flatt, 87, formerly of Odessa, passed away on Monday, June 13, 2016 at the Merrimack County Nursing Home in Boscawen, NH. He was born in Odessa on September 26, 1928, the son of the late G. Arthur and Dorothy F. Flatt. He attended Lyndonville and Odessa schools and Cornell University. Don served with the US Army and was a combat veteran of the Korean War. He also served in the Air Force Reserves and was a longtime licensed pilot. Don managed the Ithaca Agway for 25 years, and later retired from Cornell University Veterinary College.
Don was a trustee for Laurel Hill Cemetery, President and Secretary of the Odessa Lions Club, Mayor and Trustee of the Village of Odessa, Trustee of the D.S. Peterson Library, Chief of the Scottish-American Society, Lay Leader and Chairman of the Trustees of the Odessa Methodist Church. He was Past Legion Commander, Co-founder of the Schuyler County Memorial Park, did tours for the National Wartime Museum, and was co-founder of the Odessa "Breakfast Club" (3 men grew to 25). Don loved the outdoors and hunted and fished on three different continents.
He is survived by his wife, June Ann; son, Robert A. Flatt; daughter, Peggy Flatt-Danis (Patrick); sister, Beverly Riley; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Marjorie Brink and Barbara Flatt.
Graveside services with full military honors will be held on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at 11:00 am at Laurel Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Odessa-Catharine United Methodist Church or the Schuyler County Veterans Memorial Park.
