Obituary of Jane Beardsley
Jane A. Beardsley, 86, Interlaken
Jane Elizabeth Akins Burns Beardsley slipped away peacefully at Seneca View Nursing Home on Friday, April 13th, 2012. Born at home to George "Bert" and Mary Everhart Atkins of Ovid Center on March 2, 1926. Jane graduated as salutatorian of her class from Interlaken Central School in 1943 and went on to complete a secretarial course from Rochester Business Institute. She worked as a secretary and bookkeeper in the insurance business and later returned to work under her brother for the Seneca Cooperative Ins. Co.
Predeceased by her parents, her first husband, George Burns, and their son, Robert G. Burns, and all of her siblings: Naomi (Art) Graham, Ruth (Homer) Kuney, and Bob (Louise) Akins; she is survived by her husband of 56 years, Myron C. Beardsley of Interlaken. Also surviving are her daughter, Susan (Dan) Baker of Berkshire and their three sons, Ben, William, and Evan; and her son, Mark (Maureen) Beardsley of Interlaken, and their daughter, Meredith, and ten nieces and nephews.
Jane was a lifelong member of Ovid Center Baptist Church, a 70-year member of the Grange, and a charter member of the Ovid Historical Society. She was also involved in the Interlaken P.T.A., the Cooperative Extension Home Bureau, a former secretary for the Hector Grazing Assoc., the Interlaken post of the American Legion Auxiliary, and played piano for the Ovid Center Baptist Church for many years, and then for the Searsburg Community Church, where she and her husband attended later in life.
A memorial service will be held at Searsburg Community Church on Sunday, April 22, 2012 at 3 PM, officiated by Rev. Ralph Reigle. The family will receive condolences prior to the service from 2 PM to 3 PM. A graveside committal service will follow at Lake View Cemetery, Interlaken.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Searsburg Community Church or the Ovid Historical Society.
