Obituary of Ruth R. Nelson

Ruth Eleanor (Rennie) Nelson, age 97, of Montour Falls, NY, and formerly of Hopewell, PA, passed away on Monday, October 27, 2025 at Seneca View Skilled Nursing Facility. She also had resided in Appleridge Senior Living in Horseheads, NY for 12 years. She was born on August 4, 1928 in Glassport, PA to the late William K. and Lillian (Hale) Rennie.

Ruth is predeceased by her loving husband, David Lee Nelson, in 1988; brothers, Robert Rennie, Eugene Rennie, Paul Rennie and twin brother John Rennie; granddaughter, Aileen Cheng; and grandson, Richard Nelson. She is survived by her daughters, Judith (Bruce) Graf of Corning, NY, Carol (James) Cheng of Marseilles, IL, and Wendy (Bruce) McFarland of South Hamilton, MA; sons, Eric (Sharon) Nelson of Hooversville, PA, David (Nancy) Nelson of Columbus, OH, and J. Rennie (Tammy) Nelson of Hopewell, PA; grandchildren, James Graf, Allison (Joseph) Matusick, Rachael (Michael) Carver, David Lee Cheng, Timothy (Krystina) McFarland, Andrew (Keri) McFarland, Adam (Alex) McFarland, Rebekah (Joshua) Springer, J.L. Nelson, Elizabeth Nelson, Catherine (Dan) Cherry, and Jacob Nelson; great-grandchildren, Lillian and Levi Matusick, Isabella Mei and Ember Carver, Aryanna Onokhin, Eli, Sadie, Amelia and Bailey McFarland, along with Henry, Violet and Talia Springer; sisters-in-law, Sigrid Rennie and Cora Rennie, and brother-in-law, James Nelson (Dalia Stadtlander).

Ruth made her career as a Registered Nurse, working in Pennsylvania and South Carolina. She specialized in both critical care and home health. Ruth was an active member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Corning, NY. She was also a passionate Bridge player who took part in many card groups, and also played online daily. She had a great fondness for cats and is survived by her beloved feline companion, Twosy. She was an avid reader, an excellent seamstress, and loved to crochet. The main focus of her life was her family; she dearly loved her children and grandchildren. In her later years, her great-grandchildren were the lights of her life.
