Obituary of Gloria A. Mosher

Gloria Burnett Mosher, age 81, of Alpine, NY, passed away suddenly on Sunday, May 18, 2025. Gloria was born in Nevada, and moved to Elmira in 1960. Gloria will be remembered for her generous spirit, her sense of humor, her love of history, music, games, art, and especially Elvis. Gloria was a stunning redhead who grew up in Elmira, attending Elmira Free Academy and Elmira College. Her dream was to become a writer, and in 1964 she wrote an essay that, along with her flaming red hair, won her the "Miss Siren" contest held by the Elmira Fire Department. She transitioned from the city to the country when she married Pete Mosher in 1965, moving to Alpine, where she lived for over 60 years. Gloria made many friends, and became an integral member of the community. She was very active in her church, serving as the historian for the Cayutaville United Methodist Church for many years. Always a caring soul, she worked as a home health aide. Despite a difficult early life, including time spent in the Beechbrook Orphanage in Ohio, Gloria maintained a joyful outlook and always saw the bright side. Gloria was predeceased by her husband, Pierson Mosher; her daughter, Debbie Mosher; and son, David Mosher. She is survived by her son James Mosher of Corning; her aunt, Hilda Kerfoot of Tennessee; her niece, Donna (Thomas) Taber of Montour Falls; many loving cousins; and her devoted friend, Cathie Copp-Swaney of Alpine. A memorial service will be held at 10:30am on Friday, June 13, 2025 at the Cayutaville United Methodist Church, 3231 County Road 6, Alpine, NY.
