Obituary of Bruce R. Wich
Bruce Rockwell Wich, aged 73, of Montour Falls, New York passed away on Wednesday, May 7, 2025 at home holding the hand of his wife, Julie Mahan Wich, with whom he spent 39 peaceful years, after a four-year fight with Liposarcoma.
Bruce was predeceased by his parents, Richard E. Wich and Shirley Wich; his sister, Beth Ann Wich Kuster; and his dog, Henry Puggle. He is survived by his wife, Julianne Mahan Wich; a brother, several nieces and nephews, one great niece, his cousin, and friend Steven Wich; along with his close and dear childhood friend, John Ganung. He will also be greatly missed by his dog, Bernie Wich.
Bruce was born in Schuyler County, New York on March 24, 1952. He graduated from Odessa-Montour Central School in 1970 and attended Alfred State, graduating in 1972 with a degree in Electronics. Bruce was employed as a Systems Engineer with Texas Instruments until its acquisition by Hewlett Packard in 1992. He resided in North Carolina from 1986 to 2005 until he retired from Hewlett Packard in 2005 and Bruce and Julie returned to Schuyler County. Ultimately, Bruce decided he wanted to continue working, and spent over 10 years employed in the IT Department of Trumansburg Central Schools until he again retired in 2017, ultimately completing 45 years of continuous employment. He enjoyed his time at TCSD and the many close friends he made there. Bruce was a fan of film noir and enjoyed Formula 1. He is a former SCCA member and spent many happy hours wandering the course at WGI with friends.
Bruce was a kind and gentle man who was easy to be with and will be remembered for his quiet and calm demeanor.
His wife would like to give special thanks to CareFirst and its employees who assisted in making his final weeks comfortable.
Per Bruce's wishes there will be no memorial service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in his name to CareFirstNY Hospice, 3805 Meads Creek Road, Painted Post, NY 14870.
