Obituary of Josiah J. Atwood

Josiah Joy Atwood (Josie) Passed away on November 13th, 2024 at the age of 5. She was born to Michael and Leah Atwood of Watkins Glen, NY on February 5th, 2019.

Josie loved the outdoors and exploring her neighborhood. She enjoyed walks with her family to nearby Seneca Lake to throw sticks in the water and watch for ducks in the harbor. One of Josie’s favorite places to go was the local playground at Lafayette Park, where she would swing, climb, and slide all day if you would let her. When it rained, she took advantage of the opportunity to put on her rain boots and take her Daddy outside to jump in the puddles. She also loved to help Mommy cook and would sit on the kitchen counter or pull up a chair to stand on, even if it was just to be her taste tester. Josie adored her big sister and enjoyed playing in her big sister’s room with all her dolls.

Josie inspired us all with her determination to take on challenges “all by myself” as she would say, whenever Mom and Dad would try to help her with tasks like climbing the slide at the park or going up the long flight of stairs to her apartment. Even after losing her mobility in her last two years, she didn’t lose spirit. Josie will live in the memories of her Parents, Sister, and a large extended family of Great-Grandparents, Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, cousins, and friends who were part of Josie and our family’s lives.
