Obituary of Fred H. Barr

Fred H. Barr, 76, of Montour Falls, passed away on Friday, October 4, 2024. He was born in Elmira, NY on March 24, 1948 the son of the late John and Charlotte (Fox) Barr and graduated from Odessa-Montour High School in 1967. On April 11, 1969, he married Ruth M. Clark in Horseheads, NY.

Fred worked at Shepard-Niles in Montour Falls for 30 years and later retired from Hilliard Corp. in Elmira. He was a member and Past Fire Chief of the Montour Falls Fire Department. He was a member of the Mechanics Club and Montour Moose Club. Fred was also an avid card player.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ruth M. Barr; four children, Fred Barr and Michael Barr both of Montour Falls, Christopher Barr of Corning and Wendy (Sean) Austin of Montour Falls; brother, Nate (Denise) Barr of Burdett; sister, Lucy Barr of Montour Falls; three grandchildren, Trent, Kylie and Daniel; and by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday, October 10, 2024 from 1:00-2:00 pm at Vedder-Scott & Zinger Funeral Home, 122 N. Genesee St., Montour Falls, NY. Fred's funeral service will begin at 2:00 pm followed by burial in Montour Cemetery.
