Obituary of Jeanne W. Wayland

Jeanne Witte Wrinkle Wayland passed away October 29, 2023 at Bethany Manor in Horseheads, NY at the age of 83.

Jeanne was born on March 22, 1940, to Howard and Ethel (née Court) Witte in Oceanside, Long Island, NY. She graduated from East Rockaway High School and Oswego Teachers College. She later obtained her Masters in Reading Education from Elmira College.

On Long Island, Jeanne taught kindergarten at the North Belmore school district for 7 years. In 1976, she moved to Bath, NY with her then husband William Neal Wrinkle and their two children. She continued teaching in the Bath (Haverling) and Corning-Painted Post school districts, until she retired in 2003. She also gave private piano lessons to many students, which was a great pleasure for her. She traveled to Thailand, China, and the Philippines on her own after she retired. Jeanne married her beloved second husband Paul 0. Wayland in 2007 and spent the next 16 years talking about how much she loved him and how lucky she was to have found him. Together they traveled to several National Parks and sites along the West Coast. She and Paul loved cruising, with travel to both the East and West Caribbean, Alaska, New England, and Nova Scotia. She and Paul spent the cold winter months in Venice, Florida and summers in several locations in Chemung County, NY.

Jeanne was a long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church in Bath where she sang in the choir, Trinity Presbyterian Church in Venice, and First United Methodist in Horseheads.

In addition to her husband Paul, Jeanne is survived by her son William H. (Flora) Wrinkle of Cagayan De Oro, Philippines, her daughter Nancy Court Wrinkle (Daniel) Molden of Chicago, Illinois and grandchildren, Vincent Molden, Evie Molden, Walter Molden, and Samantha Wrinkle. She is also survived by her five stepchildren: Jeffrey (Dorothy) Wayland of Ontario, NY, Randall (Heather) Wayland of Farmington, NY, Gregory (Ratree) Wayland of Gainesville, FL, Brenda (Eric) Hopson of Tracy, California, and Sharon (Dave) Sidle of Trumansburg NY; ten step-grandchildren: D.J. (Emily) Wayland, Alaina (Cody) Wayland (Hipkins), Madison Wayland, Beech Wayland, Brenan Wayland, Shalane Wayland, Emma Hopson, Lee (Kaylan) Sidle, Charles (Emelia) Sidle, Ida Sidle, and two step-great-grandchildren, Emerie and Arthur.

Jeanne was predeceased by her parents, her brother Robert F. Witte, his wife Susan, and her cousin Carol.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at 2:00 pm at First United Methodist Church, 1034 Broad St., Horseheads, NY. Interment will be private in Montour Cemetery at a later date.
