Obituary of Virginia E. Sills
Virginia Sills, 100, of Burdett, NY passed away on December 19, 2022 surrounded by her loving family in the log cabin she built with her husband when he returned from World War II. Virginia was born in Mecklenburg, NY on September 1, 1922, the daughter of the late Earl and Lillian (Miller) Slocum. She worked at Remington Rand, Elmira, NY, for Schuyler Agricultural Services, picked grapes, housekeeping, and for the postal service. She especially enjoyed food preparation while making pies and thousands of piecrusts for Mr. Chicken in Watkins Glen. She dedicated her life to family and farm and eagerly looked forward to deer hunting season/story telling each year. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie E. Sills, her sisters: Irene (Edward) Long, Vivian (Roger)Thall , Charlien (John) DeLeury , and Marjorie (Judson) George, her brothers: Gerald (Catherine) Slocum, Donald (Ruth) Slocum and Earl (Ann) Slocum. She is survived by her daughter, Ruth Sills and son, Leslie A. Sills Sr. (wife Louise). She is also survived by granddaughters Kimberly (Larry) Morley and Vicky (Gerald) Grady and grandson, Leslie A. Sills Jr. (Kim), 7 great grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Virginia will rest alongside her husband in the Union Cemetery of Hector in Burdett, NY. The calling hours will be scheduled for the immediate family at Vedder-Scott & Zinger funeral home in Montour Falls.
